"Of Christlike touch"

Services

We Stand Ready to Provide a Full Range of Care . . .

Journal-listed Christian Science nurses are fully prepared to serve students of Christian Science of any age – children through seniors. Our range of services includes:

  • assistance with mobility
  • food modification and feeding
  • mother and newborn care
  • wound bandaging and other dressings
  • periodic personal care, such as special bathing or grooming, when an individual needs temporary assistance
  • full bed care
  • 24-hour emergency response
  • equipment loan

Patients are required to be relying radically on Christian Science treatment with expectancy of healing and be actively working with a Journal-listed Christian Science practitioner. No medical services, including diagnosis, nor patient transportation are provided.

Recognizing that many of our patients have non-Christian Science family members, we welcome their questions and are happy to discuss our services with them at any time.

. . . Where and When Needed

Care is provided wherever it is most supportive of Christian Science healing treatment and to the extent appropriate to the situation:

  • in the patient's home, or in Canterbury's Cottage, as appropriate
  • on a one-time basis, or over an extended timeframe
  • as the primary care-giver, or as a supplement to family care-givers
  • on a periodic visit basis (example: 2 hours/day, 3 days/week), or on a 'round-the-clock basis

Cottage Accommodations: home-away-from-home

In addition to visiting patients in their own homes, we maintain a private residence, referred to as the “Cottage,” so that we are always prepared to provide home visits, either “in your home or ours.” This “home-away-from-home” is located in a quiet neighborhood of the Garden Home district in SW Portland:  8838 SW 57th Avenue. Accommodations at the Cottage are made available (without additional charge) to patients who live outside of our typical travel range, and otherwise for patients whose care is best provided away from their own home. Cottage accommodations are made available free of charge. (However, the Cottage is not a residence for Christian Scientists.)  For a tour of the Cottage, please call our administrative office for an appointment and directions: 503-245-0808.

How to Utilize Canterbury Crest Nursing Services

Should you or someone you know need help, please don't hesitate to contact us. We have a Christian Science nurse on call day or night, seven days a week. The initial assessment is free of charge.

  • Call CCNS (24 hrs a day) – a Chistian Science nurse will gather and provide general information over the phone.
  • Personal Visit – a Chistian Science nurse will come to the home, conduct an initial assessment of the situation, confer with the patient, practitioner, and family, and address any immediate need.
  • Christian Science Nursing Plan – if ongoing care is needed, a personalized plan will be created by CCNS, including the type of care, schedule, supplies and equipment needed. Proper care is regularly reviewed by the Chistian Science nurses and periodically reviewed with the patient and his/her family. (Time is not a factor in review of continued care.)
  • HEALING! We fully expect our patients to find their freedom and return to their normal activities. Testimonies of healing and feedback on the care received are joyfully welcomed.
